Hi - I posted a couple of years ago and have been lurking since in anticipation of a possible move because of husband's work. The bottom fell out of the economy at that time, but the position in Boulder has now resurfaced so we may be headed there - we'll hopefully know by the first of the year.

I've gotten some great information from Bradburn and generally like the feel (at least over the Net) of that area, but I like BVSD and have identified some schools in Boulder proper that I'd want for my child.

She's our only child and I'm looking for friendly neighborhoods that would help us help her transition to a new area. It won't be easy for her so the friendlier with lots of kids the better.

Does anyone know of similar neighborhoods to Bradburn in the BVSD similar? I'm not necessarily talking about a new urban community but one that has a community feel, where there are kids, where adults speak to one another, people decorate for the holidays, where I can let my child ride her bike and has an opportunity to make friends in her neighborhood and not just at school?

We're also looking to rent intially so if you know of actual names of neighborhoods, it would help me tremendously in searching on craigslist and other sites as houses come up for rent.

Thank you for any advice you can lend.

Hi, I'm looking at Horizons and Summit, both of which are strickly lottery, I believe? So, we would just have to live in the area in order to qualify. If I'm right, we could live in Louisville, Lafayette in order to get in. My daughter would be entering the 6th grade so that's apparently a good time to be in the lottery.

The lottery runs every year. You apply, get in or not. They keep no wait lists beyond the current school year. If you do not get in, you can reapply the next year. Horizons is K-8, may not have many (or any) openings for 6th graders. Summit is 6-8, so yes, a good year to try for the lottery. These are both fairly popular schools, so the competition for the lottery will be stiff. You do not even need to live in the BVSD to enter the lottery, however, it ups your chances, as in addition to a lottery, there are preferences which change from year to year. Out of district students are always a lower preference.

Thank you. Do you know anything about actual neighborhoods?

You're welcome.

I don't know much about neighborhoods in Boulder. There are lots of kids in all the Louisville neighborhoods, and it's not very big, so if your child is friends with someone in a different 'hood, she could probably walk/bike to that person's house. The problem will be that if she goes to school in Boulder, she may not meet many kids in Louisville, for example.

I live in SE Boulder in a great neighborhood called Spanish Hills/Paragon Estates. There's also Indian Peaks and Paul Nor Estates nearby that are good neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are east end of Boulder so close to Louisville and Lafayette. Louisville is great place w/ lots of affordable rentals. I know people who have kids at Louisville Middle School that are very happy, there is also Monarch k-8 in Louisville. Platt Middle is where the SE Boulder neighborhoods go to. You can do a lottery for Peak to Peak Charter in Lafayette.
