Love all the great info and honest comments on this site. My family and I are relocating soon to Boston from the Midwest. I've been to Boston a lot and love it but my family has not (I grew up in upstate NY - but I love the Sox!). We're looking to rent an apartment or house for under $1,800/month within a 30min public trans commute from Charlestown. Good public schools for our 3 kids (ages 4,11,14) are a high priority, as well as some space to live in and park a car. A little Latino diversity would be nice too, since my wife and I speak Spanish and enjoy the culture, traditions, and family-centered life.

I don't know about the school system, but how about Lowell? Chelmsford does have an excellent school system and in my opinion is a nicer town, but there is definitely more of a Latino community presence in Lowell. I used to live in Chelmsford and commute to Charlestown, the commute just about exactly 1/2 hour (barring any accidents or inclement weather).
