We live in the suburbs and are out of step with the Boston neighborhoods and use of the T. Our 17 year old has a job opportunity this summer in Boston, on Washington Street near Green Street. He would need to travel the Orange line from North Station to Green Street and then walk to his job. Can anyone give me input on safety on the orange line and on the safety of this neighborhood?

I have a number of friends over there and that is probably the safest T stop in JP. The area to the west of the Green St station is very nice, and I wouldn't expect any problems on that stretch of Washington St., particularly during the day. Though the Orange line goes through some dodgier areas, I have never felt unsafe riding it between Green St and downtown. Best way to tell would be to take the trip yourselves some day if you can find time.

I've been riding the orange Line for 15 years. Never so much as an unkind word while on the train. Several kind ones and more than one "how do I get to ... ?"
