Hey guys,

I really want to move to Boston and am trying to get a job lined up. I'm a fairly new RN with 2 years of Tele experience.

Unfortunately, I only have an Associate Degree. Most places that I've looked into say that they "prefer" a Bachelor's but from my experience (being an nurse in the New Orleans area) it just depends on how desperate they are to fill the position. I don't know too many nurses here who have difficulty finding jobs with an Associate Degree. But I was wondering if the situation is different up there.

I've applied to 8 different jobs at Beth Israel and MGH (mostly other floor positions or EDs) but haven't heard anything back yet. I only applied a week ago, though, so I wouldn't necessarily have expected to hear back yet.

So my question is... Is it realistic to expect to find an RN job in the Boston area with an Associate's Degree? Do you know of any hospitals that are hiring that would consider someone with an ADN?

(For what it's worth...I'm not picky about exact location...anything in the Greater Boston Area would be fine by me... and as soon as I get settled I want to find a school or online program with an ADN-BSN program.)

Thanks!

I remember not too long ago seeing Brigham changed their hiring requirements for nurses to BSN. Brigham is a founding partner of Partners Healthcare which includes MGH. And whatever direction Partners goes, others in Bostonia are quick to follow. Best bet is to check and see if BSN is now required. If so, you may need to sort through the various institutions to see who will hire an RN w/o the BSN. Other big places include Boston Medical Center, St Elizabeth's (Caritas), Children's, and New England MC.

Good luck!
