That's it. You've hit the essence of what makes SK an awesome writer for me. In Christine he got into the head of a squirrel or something and it was a thing that you couldn't portray in a movie. The Stand was awesome for me. Whether we're talking about the book or the movie, The Stand was the real deal. I thought Randall Flagg (in the movie) was pretty good. Some female on here thought he was hot! I'm not gonna go there or argue that. I'm more of a Molly Ringwald fan, but that is what the Evil One should be. Would Robert Duvall "do it" for you women as well? I didn't think so.
What about Cell? I'd finished that one a couple of months ago and I can't remember exactly how it ended. I'll be honest. I didn't exactly understand the very end. What happened? If anyone can answer this for me, maybe you can PM me or preface it with "Possible Spoiler".
Thanks in advance.

Whoa!!!!!!!! Was jumping around and saw this thread, just had to jump in here. I LOVE Stephen King. Been a fan for about 20 years (books), been a fan of the movies made from his books even longer because most came out when I was small (however, some of the newer movies that they've made from his books, I wasn't too thrilled with). However, I must admit that in his dark tower series (I've never read them all), I've lost interest here and there. But I think I was too young when I read them to understand fully. Best books, hmm, there are so many. Well, the two most terrifying for me were It and Salem's Lot. I was so scared by Salem's Lot the movie as a child (the only vampire movie that I've never seen all the way through), that I could never read the book. I finally read it at 30 and it put such chills through me that I could only read when my husband was awake with me and I was always afraid to go to bed at night. After finally conquering the book, I tried the movie...still can't do it. The Body (from the book Different Seasons) was great (aka Stand By Me). The Stand was awesome. Cujo. Carrie. Storm of the Century was another great one....i could go on......
Ps. Did you know that Stephen King cameos in the movies made from his books?

I read Carrie more than 30 years ago , and none of his books afterward have measured up.
Frankly, IMO Stephen King is a fabulous storyteller but a lousy writer. I think sometimes he tries too hard and spends too much ink on unneeded detail. Christine and The Dead Zone are to me his most well-written books. I hated what he did to The Stand when he rewrote it in the early 90s; it already was a little too long, and he added pages and pages to it? Oy ...
That's just blasphemy!!!!!!! He's the world's most famoush writer, dude can write!
I love his books too...my favorite being The Stand. I've read both versions and like the expanded version the best. The trouble with his books being adapted to movies or mini-series is there's too much in the books and they can't possibly take every page and show it on film. The only movies that I liked were: Misery, The Shawshank Redemption (LOVED it) and my all time favorite horror film...The Shining.
Yes, I'm a fan of Stephen King. I've read all of his older stuff. I liked The Stand, Thinner, and The Dead Zone. He's written some things that have really creeped me out and made me lose sleep.
I'm reading Everything's Eventual now. I'm about a third the way through and want to read 1408 before I watch it. I've got a feeling that the read will be better than the flick.
Location: Moved to town. Miss 'my' woods and critters.

In the early '80's I was a librarian in a small Mid Missouri town and began reading his books then. My favorite is Cujo and always will be. Have never seen the movie and don't know that I will. Have heard way too many people talk about it and the ending, etc. being so different from the book. I read it in one sitting and I live in the middle of the woods. Imagine my feelings when later that evening a stray dog came around the corner towards my home!!!!
Still love that book and will reread it sometime again. I have read many if not most of his earlier works, but have missed some of the most recent ones.
Will have to get back to them. Have been reading Clive Cussler and Dean Koontz lately.
