There is a lot of info in this thread already--did you read through the previous posts? You can go up through CA and Oregon, too. It depends on whether you're hauling a load, or just driving. 93 is a lonely two-lane road with few services, so in terms of easy driving I'd recommend I-15 to I-84.

I merged that post into this thread since they had started a new thread. Hopefully they will read this whole thread now and gain some insight.

I am going to be driving next week from Southern California to Boise. First time cross country driving and I plan to do it in one shot, breaks included. It seems like the consensus has I15 as the safest and easiest route. Should I worry about snow/ice in my family sedan? Is a one day trip doable?

This topic has been discussed in several other threads. You might do a search before you head out to see what other people say. I know I contributed to at least one of them when I recommended U.S. 95 for most of the trip. Basically, up through the Owens Valley, cross over the White Mountains just outside of Bishop. Pick up 95 to I-80, then west to Winnemucca. That is where I usually spend the night, camped out in the car at the first truck stop/gas station when you head into town.

Next day, north out of Winnemucca on 98, through Oregon a bit, then into Idaho. At that point, I turn left to Ontario, OR to Tri-Cities, then on to Spokane and home. You will turn right toward Boise.

I've made the trip several times in winter. Never had a problem with the drive, only the first time when sleeping overnight without adequate blankets. Myself? I wouldn't try to make the trip in one go/day. Too dangerous! There will be snow, and most likely ice on parts of the route. It's tough to ascertain the road when it is dark. And I made the trip with an AWD vehicle. No way would you get me to do it, in one go and a 2WD car, even if it were FWD.
