Oh, hello. It has been a while since I have read a post of yours. (under any name)

So I should defer to your 'control'. I have a little history with doc, but not so much with you.

Have a great day reading through old posts.

Btw; staying on topic is suppose to be a forum tradition, contrary to your support for chaos. Also, if you use the quote button, you won't create so many misspellings in quotes you are using from others.

Good luck to you.

preguntas: what part of "the doc's" post was unfair or biased towards Greenville? I haven't spent a ton of time in Greenville, but from everything that I do know of, it seemed spot on.

and of course someone is going to get comparisons. they are quite helpful when moving from location A which you are very familiar with to location B which you are not so familiar with

Actually Steve this was a promotional for which the poster has a history.

If we call it unfair, it was what he left out that made it biased. Listing what one has that the other doesn't and then not doing the reverse.
It is also funny to suggest that Birmingham is isolated compared to Greenville. Greenville is not a crossroads of any kind actually. It just happens to lie along I-85. (granted between two major cities) His day trip scenario suggest a reach. By his scenario I could say we are closer to the Pacific and be correct. His city comparisons were a reach.

Steve, I don't have a committed debate here, I just see his posts of identical nature often in the past mostly and it does give rise in me to think about what the motivation would be. It was certainly denigrating in a subtle way. I know that you are not a city patriot as some of us are, but we do have the freedom here to address inequity just as you always come to the front to challenge accomplishment and attainment.

But see how the comparison style has already taken this thread off course today. I had already posted a positive response to the OP's questions. That is not happening with this back and forth, do I will let my comments close at this time. Hopefully others will help the OP.

I hope this clears my post for you.

Btw; I have spent a lot of time in Greenville all my life. (I had an uncle there) It is a very nice town. I don't however find its outlying areas to be attractive or cohesive.

preguntas, I appreciate your posts - but, I want to clarify that I haven't just "passed thru Birmingham" - I'm an AL native, born in Birmingham, and lived in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa for nearly 20 years, combined - I still have family there and visit about 2/year (would do it more if I didn't have to drive thru Atlanta!).

I still feel that Greenville offers better "daytrips" than B'ham (just my opinion). I live south of downtown Greenville - again, from my home to downtown Asheville is less than 75 minutes - in comparison, a little longer in travel time from B'ham to Tuscaloosa - realize also that we get our ABC station out of Asheville, WLOS (television weather reporting is crazy here with the elevation change - weather is always divided between the "Mountains" and "Upstate") - so, Greenville/Upstate SC has inherent bonds with Western NC - our local news always has Western NC events.

My wife/kids just returned from the beach last weekend - drivetime to/from the Isle of Palms (from Greenville) was ~ 3 hours, 20 minutes - I will admit that the AL/FL Panhandle beaches are superior to any SC beach (with their soft, white sand and emerald-green/clear water).

With all that said, I really enjoy my trips back to Birmingham - it has the some of the best BBQ anywhere in the country - phenomenal BBQ restaurants - nothing like that in Upstate SC.

I don't think the daytrip comparison is that big of a reach. When I note the nice things about Birmingham to potential midwestern transplants, I point out how we are within 5 hours of both nice mountains and nice beaches which people from St. Louis, Des Moines and Kansas City might appreciate. To say Greenville is closer to mountains and beaches than Birmingham is true. I prefer the Emerald Coast compared to Hilton Head and the Outer Banks, but other people's mileage may vary.

I agree with the statement that Drfranklin gave a very fair comparison of Bham to Greenville particulalry to a person currently living in Greenville and asking opinions of how life would differ in Bham!

I believe that those who are ignoring the fact that the OP lives in Greenville and therefore does not need a chamber brochure are creating an x vs. x thread. She seems to know a lot about Birmingham and really was asking about weather and safety in neighborhoods.

Saying Birmingham had been overlooked by Trader Joe's for so long is a good example of someone taking an opportunity to do a 'little bit' of disparaging. But go ahead. It is a little funny when one knows both cities quite well, as I do.
Match for Match Greenville is fine for what it is, but it is not in Birmingham's league. Gasp.

As I suggested previously, why don't we address her specific issues, with integrity. Her last two paragraphs summed up the questions. Nothing about TJ's or Saks, Von Maur, or Myrtle Beach or Organge Beach or malls. (where did that all come from; no don't answer)

I tried to just answer the OP's questions and keep my comments within the context of her OP. If I had gone on to try to slight Greenville by naming off bunch of unique stores and attractions and metrics that Birmingham has over her current place of residence I'm pretty sure a few critics would have shown up to call me a homer trying to toot my horn and they'd be geared up to put me in my place.

No matter, I think she got the proper message despite the useless static and hopefully she'll get the job she's looking for and will find a great place to live here.

Birmingham is a 2nd tier city, whether you want to believe it or not. As well as Nashville, Austin, San Antonio, Jacksonville, Memphis, and New Orleans. Greenville would be more comparable to Mobile, Charleston, Savannah, Chattanooga and etc.

You really think Birmingham is on the same level as Austin and San Antonio? If so, you either haven't spent much time in those cities or you were blindfolded during your stay. And before people complain about an outsider chiming in on the bham board, I lived there for five years and occasionally check this forum for updates.

Birmingham is a nice city with a lot to offer, but your comparisons are WAY off!
