We currently live in North Alabama, but DH is looking at a possible transfer close to Birmingham. The job would be off of Pinson valley Parkway on Valley East Industrial Drive. I am looking at the map and it seems there are many small cities/towns around that area. Gardendale, Fultondale, Tarrant City, Pinson, New Castle, etc....

What we are looking for is a nice place to rent until we find a place to buy. We are mid 40's and no children at home. I would rather find a house than an apartment, but a nice apartment or duplex isn't out of the question. I would like to keep the rent at $1000 or less. I would love to be in a pretty area - mountains or water of some type. The topography on the map looks like there would be some mtns in the area. (I am from S. GA which is flat flat flat, so don't laugh if I call a big hill a mountain! LOL) Don't mind being in the country, but don't want to have to drive too far to get into town.

Any help y'all can give is very much appreciated, and I hope I have been clear enough on what we are looking for. Really not that picky - just a safe and decent place not too far from his job.

Thanks guys!

Cheapest you can rent a house in Pinson would be about $1000 a month. The area is nice, woods all around hiding houses.

Stay away from Tarrent, it's an inner-city suburb that is heavy in industry pollution and crime.

Fultondale has it's nicer areas and (along with Gardendale) some suburban shopping. Pinson borders Trussville which has a few more shopping options, but there isn't a mall until you get south of Birmingham. All are quiet southern towns for the most part.

It is easy and quick to get into downtown Bham from all places with a lot of Interstates and highways around, but it also quick to get lost or reach empty country if you want to get away.

Theres a nice part of Tarrant off of 79 that's closer to Pinson, but otherwise yes avoid tarrant. The areas near inglenook the airport and Zion city are very depressed.

Wondering if Gardendale would be the best choice?

Springville might be a little far, but I am not counting anything out! Just wanting a nice area not too far from DH job.
