Is there anyone else living on the big island that is SICK TO DEATH of noisy cars/trucks? Horrible rap music played SO LOUD that it literally shakes your house(early in the morning/late at night no less)? The cops don't do ANYTHING about it. How can these vehicles pass inspection? Maybe this is why I am beginning to hate it here. I just don't get it. If there is anyone else out there that is feeling the same, please chime in. If you don't experience this on a daily basis you will not understand. I've had people come and visit from all over and they CANNOT BELIEVE how loud it is in our "sleepy" little town. I had one local friend that lives in a real "rural" area come visit and he almost chased down a car because we couldn't even hear each other!!! I really want to know if I am the only one this bothers?! Noise pollution is a real thing and it SHOULD BE A CRIME.

The city close to me, Peoria, IL, has just about solved the loud music problem. Last summer they passed a city ordinance that allows the police to impound the vehicle along with large fines. I believe the third offense means they keep the vehicle and sell it at auction! It is much quieter now in Peoria.

Wow! Thanks for the info. It makes me feel like there might be some hope!

Generally this is handled on a community and family level instead of as a police matter. Tell the aunties of the loud music playing kids and word will get around to be respectful. If they don't get respectful, then the uncles will get involved and then things will get quiet.

Sometimes calling the police makes things worse since you lose all respect as being part of the community.

I don't know about that. I have actually talked to some of the kids who drive like maniacs and have politely told them to please slow down and they do it for a day and then it's back to the same old. It also doesn't help when half of the people being disrespectful ARE the aunties and uncles. Driving 50+ on a one lane road with blind driveways and tons of kids and elderly people is more than just disrespectful, it is DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS. I pay taxes and should have the right to complain to the police department. It is there job to make sure people aren't driving to endanger.

Noise is annoying, yes. But what bothers me, really really deep down disturbs me, are people who go to the beach, or a park and sit there on that land that they profess to practically worship, drinking endless beers, then leaving the bottles on the ground when they pile into those honkin' big trucks with the illegal tires and window tint, driving hell-bent-for-leather endangering life and limb of all who may have the misfortune of being nearby. While uncle-cousin-inlaw policeman sits idly by. That's what bothers me.

You'll never get them to stop. They have been doing that since I was in college there years ago. I llived in Hawaii for 12 yrs and it never changed, it just got worse. Plus there is nothing worse to the locals then "hau'ole's" coming from the mainland and trying to change Hawaii and telling them what to do If you are local, then you have a better chance at getting them to listen to you.

Good luck!

Kinda figured. We've been here 6 years AND my girlfriend is local/hawaiian. It has gotten out of hand. I really feel for 80/90 year olds that surround me who are mostly all ill and in/out of the hospital. Absolutely NO respect. Oh well, we're selling and getting out of here in a couple of months. Peace bruddahs.
