The rule of thumb has been that a rental in Redmond runs $100 a month less than an identical house in Bend.

I think that difference has grown a bit and it is looking a bit more like a $200 a month difference.

Redmond still has some mill shacks that are inexpensive rentals. The mill shacks in Bend are all on the river and are really expensive real estate. But at any rate, it is easier to find a lower cost (maybe not so nice) rental in Redmond than it is in Bend. There is an enormous demand for the lower cost rentals because so many families are working the tourist based jobs for minimum wage.

Whats a mill shack?

$1100 will barely cover the mortgage on most of the stuff I've been looking at in Redmond....

They are the small houses built to house the mill workers. 1930-ish, and a lot of them are kit houses from Sears. They are almost all Craftsman Bungalow in style.

You will see a lot of them if you drive around the old town area of Bend, in what is really the westside, and not what realtors call the westside.

Redmond has a lot of them between downtown and the dry canyon. Redmond also has some less glamorous ones between the highway and the bypass.

I bet they rented within days of being posted, though. It appears that rents have risen just within the past week - so a 3br is closer to $1200-1300 now.

I'm starting to see more desperation posts of people saying they need 3 bedrooms and ability to house pets for ~$1200. This is just the beginning of March. I shudder to think what's going to happen by summer.

These are typically 2/1s, at least those that I looked at in Redmond. There are a lot of them but most are fixers. Some people are fixing them up and renting them for around $1000. Moderator cut: snip

Just a friendly reminder that it's against the TOS to advertise on these forums, even if you aren't the one actually doing the advertising. Sharing individual listings from real estate agents, Craigslist, etc. may only be done via DM. Thanks!

Ah, sorry, I was just trying to provide examples, not trying to advertise their listings, LOL!
