Hi,

Thanks to everyone on here! This forum has been very helpful and answered many questions about Baton Rouge.

My wife and I are moving to BR in August and we have found a great looking house on Meadowview Avenue, near the intersection of Perkins and Siegen.

Is this a safe area? Is there anything I should worry about in that area?

I am going to be a Junior at LSU and it seems like it wouldn't be a terrible drive.

Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Not really. It's a pretty safe area in my view. I used to have a freind that lived in the general vicinity and she never had any problems. Welcome to BR.

NOT a safe neighborhood. Had a friend live on Meadowpark Ave and his home was broken into. There's a ghetto apt complex directly behind the neighborhood on Siegen. Lots of kids wandering around at night who shouldnt be there. The neighborhood is very old and run down as time goes on.

Are you buying or renting?

The neighborhood itself is safe, there is a rough complex across the street on Seigen. Break-ins happen all over a city, who robs a poor man?

Said the person who doesn't live in Baton Rouge.

Said the person who can't spell Baton Rouge... I can be juvenile as well, but I'd rather not stoop to your level as much. I know the area better than you do, and I don't live in Baton Rouge...

It's not a dangerous neighborhood or area. Doesn't mean a random person can't break in.

Had a random person break into my neighbors home and I live in a very nice neighborhood. It happens.

That said, that neighborhood isn't the greatest, but nothing newsworthy happens there as far as I can tell (so far at least). If you are going to be attending LSU you probably should look closer to campus. Contact the EBRSO and see if you can get some crime data for the neighborhood. It could be a nice place to live for all I know. Some of the most expensive real estate in the city is within walking distance to the ghetto.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, that neigborhood is low-lying. I don't know if water back-up is a problem there during freak rain events but its something to think about.

Overall, not my favorite place. I would probably keep looking, but that's just me.

I am just renting and we are looking in the $750 - $850 range. And I really, really, don't want to live in an apartment complex. The problem is just finding places to rent! I've only had luck on Craigslist and there is very little available elsewhere. Any suggestions on where to find listings? The rental market seems to be a little inflated.

Thanks for all of the replies!!

I live in the Oak Hill subdivision near there. I personally would avoid that neighborhood. Its outer appearance is that it is a little bit on the ghetto side.

Hey now, so what if it looks ghetto and there's a random house broken into every now and then. So what???
