Buster Olney just reported Mashiro Tanaka signed a 7 year 155 million dollar contract with the Yankees. I guess they wanted him more then the Dodgers. Or should I say needed him more then the Dodgers.

As a Dodger fan I am glad he went to the American League then with lets say the Cubs or even worse yet the D-Backs. With the Yankees he is basically irrelevent to the Dodgers.

He will be a huge addition if he performs anywhere near the way he did in Japan.

He is 25 years old, but has already pitched 1,315 innings at the top level in Japan, they had him throwing 226 innings at the age of 22.

Tanaka made his debut at the age of 18, throwing 186 innings as a rookie.

All of these things are in violation of the current conventional wisdom in MLB which calls for reduced workloads until 23 or 24 years old.

Doesn't mean Tanaka's arm is going to blow up on him, but it might.

I would have been happy to root for him in the USA but now that he's a Yankee....I hope he gets lit up every five days.

I now expect at least an hour of programming dedicated to him every game he pitches.

It did for Frank Tanana back in the 70's, he pitched the same amount of innings at the same age.

The BANKEES are back! After a 4 year hiatus where the farm system is producing nothing but weeds, the BANKEES decide to buy their way back into a pennant race spending 155 Million on a guy who has never thrown a major league pitch. Only the deep pockets of the BANKEES can do that and spend a half BILLION dollars in a 3 month span.

Seriously, MLB is a joke. There are like 7 or 8 teams buying players and 23 or so who hope they can build through the minor league system..catch lightning in a bottle one time and then watch as all their good players go to the a handful of deep pocket teams...

That's the game alright. As a fan of one of the 23, I take it for face value and no longer carry that childhood passion for the sport. Of course, both sides are to blame, and it's the fans (forever taken for granted) who lose.

Every team want's to win and they all are willing to pay to upgrade their line up, but when the Bombers do it, everyone acts like little cupcakes, lol.

I find that there is more parody in baseball than there is in the NBA. Who will make it to the Finals? Why, the Heat, Spurs, Thunder, or the Pacers (and that'd be something of an interesting breakthrough). Last year, it was 3 of those teams.

In baseball? I can come up with a good 5-10 teams that one could easily see making a run at making it to the World Series, and teams do it much more uniquely.

As a fan of small market baseball, I also don't have a problem with the Yankees potentially blowing a large chunk of money on one unknown commodity. It leaves other resources up for grabs for us bottom feeders, and it's always fun to root against someone or something.
