Check out this story in the "Afro" from 1980: https://news.google.com/newspapers?n...,3068502&hl=en

Shouldn't it have been mentioned that the Two Guys (which the original cemetery was destroyed for) closed in 1980? Also, the "Afro" article puts the whole timeline of the cemetery's death at a later time than this article: Laurel Cemetery and the Belair Shopping Center at Monument City Blog

If the second article is correct, Two Guys opened this store in 1962, which the first article would seem to make impossible.

I read both articles as saying the Two Guys was built in 1962 so I don't understand what you say the difference in timelines is

Oops... you may be correct but shouldn't the 1980 article mention that the Two Guys closed and became a white elephant (which would be REALLY sad to someone with relatives buried there, as if it weren't bad enough that the cemetery was destroyed for the Two Guys in the first place) that same year?

Don't know about the distant past as to how the cemetery was maintained, but in the 1950s it was well beyond destroyed. Many of the stones were flattened or broken in two and under vegetation. You had to dig thru the growth to see the stones.

True, but I wonder... why was the cemetery allowed to go to hell (no pun intended) in the first place? I especially am shocked that people used it as a garbage dump.
