When Corner and Wire co-author David Simon wrote Homicide in 1988, population in the Western district was 100,000; last census for the same tract was 40,000.

At the same time, there has been a net uptick in overall city population and nearly double the amount of young college graduates coming to Baltimore.

Since the peak in Schmoke's reign, murders are down (still got a ways to go on that one).

More buildings are being rehabbed adn there are many proposals for high rises. The next 10 years will see a lot of growth in Baltimore.
So the way to get things done in Baltimore is to make a film about a certain ****ty section. Then within a few years that area will become "beautified".

I think we solved the problem. Corrupt politicians will only ACT once a movie is made revealing corruption and ****yness of an area. Then they will do everything within their power to prevent the movie from being a accurate depiction of that area.

BRILLIANT

This book is interesting! It's hardcore and not for the faint-at-heart.

I don't think he's race baiting. His books bring up some serious points about the devolution of American cities. I don't agree with everything he writes, but he makes critical points.

I have lived in Baltimore City for 54 years and violence here is a significant problem, almost a way of life. In 2013 we had the 5th highest murder rate and according to FBI statistics we were the 7th most violent city per capita in the nation. Already in 2015, Baltimore is showing signs that it is going to pass 2013. We have had white flight then black flight. People are exiting Baltimore at a steady rate. It is easy to discuss Baltimore and be a critic if you don't live here. Baltimore still has some nice neighborhoods. Teenage pregnancies are on the rise again and taxes here are outrages. Like the murder rate we are the 5th highest taxed city/state in the nation. I can remember when you could walk just about anywhere in Baltimore with-out the fear of being harmed. Now I am fearful walking from my car to my house. It is a shame what has happened to this city in the past 50 years.

If you have white flight then black flight, then who is left?
