Hi Folks,

I'm interviewing for a position at the John Hopkins-East Baltimore Campus. I was hoping I could receive some suggestions on nice, safe neighboring towns to live in. I would like to keep my commute to under 30 minutes. I'm married and we have a 2-year old with another baby on the way, so good public schools will be important in the future as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Regards,
Bobby~

First question is whether you would consider private schools as that makes a huge difference on where you can live (i.e., nice areas in Baltimore, but wouldn't want the Baltimore City/County schools).

Unless you can afford sending your kid(s) to a private school, don't even think about living in Baltimore County.

Stay in the City itself.
Patterson Park, Butchers Hill, Northwood, etc.

That future is at least 3 years away.
You'll be renting for now and can make that more permanent home choice later and based on your own direct experience of things.

Thank you for the kind feedback. No, we wouldn't be able to afford private school. So living in a town with a good public school system will definitely be important. I have heard that Perry Hall/White Marsh has good schools with new, affordable subdivisions. How long would that commute be to Johns Hopkins East Baltimore? Thanks again!

Google maps says about 11 miles White Marsh to the Bayview Campus at 4940 Eastern Ave. It say 20 minutes in 11 AM traffic, but you should check it when your commute time occurs.

BTW, there was a long thread from someone who also decided Perry Hall/White Marsh was best for his family. See the decision on page 8: https://www.city-data.com/forum/balti...re-live-8.html

In the evening rush driving to White Marsh/Perry Hall from the Johns Hopkins East Baltimore campus on Monument street could easily take 45 minutes in daylight, good weather.

I would go north if I were you. I dont know what your budget is and if you want to rent or buy as there are no apartmetns up in this area, but I would look in to Parkton, Sparks, Upperco. About a 30 minute drive down 83 to work, "country" living, no city noise, no city "violence"

30 minutes from Sparks? Only if you are commuting at 2 am.
