Whew! When I saw automation I thought it was related to the ground to flight data that allows planes to fly with minimal control inputs, and that being hacked or compromised. Something I'm sure we will actually witness in the future.
I wonder if the passengers will be compensated for their inconvenience. Maybe the flight attendants will actually toss each one of these thousands of customers a FREE bag of peanuts while they are waiting in the airport lobbies all across the country for hours on end

I do large-scale computer networking for a living, and I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. Central data repositories are dependent on connectivity, it's surprisingly easy to mess up a network, and infrastructure in most organizations has been cut to the bone.
