I was totally unfamiliar with the beacon/arrow "highway".

Now, the key to Superman's Fortress of Solitude makes sense to me.

East of Phoenix and north of the former Williams AFB is a sign that points to Phoenix' airport, placed there years ago. Not as old as the concrete arrows but fascinating because it too is still visible.
