Ive been using Seafoam in my Cars/Generator/Lawn Mowers gas, oil, and intake for awhile now and im always amazed how it cleans and makes engines run much smoother. In my Classic Car with it running at idle, I slowly inject seafoam down the Carb bowl vents and the carb works extremely well afterward.
Just wondering if anyone has gone outside of its normal intention, and tried it on other things like : Metal, chrome, stains, etc ??? Or if youve found a different application on mechanical equipment . If so, please report.
I used to think it was snake oil as well. Kind of how slick 50 or whatever it's called used to be.
There was also "Prolong" engine treatment....where they'd show a commercial of an engine with the treatment, then they'd drain the oil and run the engine with no oil in it....supposedly the Prolong treatment was supposed to be like a film that stuck to the engine parts. They even showed an engine where they drained the oil, dumped in sand, ran it.....then for the rest of the non-believers they removed the oil pan with all the sand and started the engine, this time you could see the whole bottom rotating assembly....and supposedly it didn't miss a beat.
Also Prolong was backed up (so it said on the bottole) by the late Smokey Yunick who quoted

So what's the benefits of using Seafoam? I see it says you can run it in the crankcase or in the fuel....what can i expect from using it other than creating heavy smoke trails?

Well supposedly it'll clean carbon deposits, free sticky valves etc. etc. when added directly to the intake. In your fuel it'll clean your injectors and in your oil it prevents/cleans sludge and other harmful deposits amongst other things.
You'll only get the thick white smoke if you add it directly to your intake. Check out youtube. Theres quite a few videos about it that show people using it and it's benefits.
It's not a snake oil. Probably the only thing that isn't snake oil.
Seafoam is a cleaner. It claims it's 100% petroleum so it must be kerosene or alcohol.
I used it once on my beater. It did make a noticeable difference. I poured a full can into the gas tank, half down the crankcase, half down the PCV valve.
