Hello,

when I used to reside in the USA, I bought a 2000 Dodge Caravan. I moved to Canada in 2006 and imported the vehicle to Canada. In order to license the vehicle for operation in Canada, I had to install daytime running lights. Now, I am planning to move back to the USA, and would need to re-import the vehicle.

I read Importing a Motor Vehicle - CBP.gov as well as Importing Vehicles and Engines | US EPA, and I have concluded the following:

- I have a U.S. Version Not Modified or Altered vehicle (according to 2C(2) at Overview of Vehicle Import Requirements | Importing Vehicles and Engines | US EPA (http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/quiktext.htm#usversion - broken link))
- I need to fill out EPA Form 3520-1 and declare code "B" on that form. (http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/forms/3520-1.pdf (broken link))
- I need to fill out DOT Form HS-7 (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CARS/RULES/...hs799short.pdf)
- I do not have to pay duty since this car was previously exported from the USA (Section "Re-Importing A Previously Exported Vehicle" at Importing a Motor Vehicle - CBP.gov)
- I have to provide a bill of sale or copy of my title as proof for my vehicle being previously purchased in the USA.

Is this all that is required or might I be missing something? Thanks!

Default Done?

Hi, I'm importing my truck back as well in a few months.

How did it go?

I live in BC right now and they took my original title (I kept a copy) and my license plates from the USA.

What did you need to cross the border?
How what did you need to get your van re-titled/registered in your home state?

If its a pain I might just sell my truck here and be done with it.

PM me if you can -

Thanks

Default How did it go

Hi There,

I'm in a similar situation, wanting to import a car back into the US that I exported a few years ago. Beyond your bullet points below, were there any other steps in the process? How much did it cost? Any other suggestions/pointers?

Thanks.

Sorry for the super late reply. The CBP officer actually provided all the forms and I filled it out at the border. No duty/fee was assessed. You need to take the stamped forms to your local DMV to register your imported vehicle.

Do you know if taxes need to be paid when the DMV registers the re-imported vehicle?

Specifically I will be registering it in FL.
