Take a breath. No need to post twice. Yes you can change your engine while the vehicle is financed, but is that necessary? "given me problems" doesn't sound fatal.

You can do anything you want to your car even if you owe money on it EXCEPT sell it.

Uh, you can sell a car if you owe money on it. Why on earth wouldn't you be able to sell it? You'll still need to pay the loan off.

This thread is old, but I'll answer anyway, no, you don't have to report the color change to the dmv, it doesn't matter.

Some states do list color on the title, others do not. Only thing that really matters is the vin.

In my mind, selling a car includes transferring the title to the new owner, among all the obvious other stuff. That can't be done unless the car is paid off. I'm sure you've seen many threads here posted by people who don't know that or think there is some way around that.

Yo Like I said YOU CANT SELL IT IF YOU DONT OWN IT. You must have the title is the reason why on earth you cant sell it. You can not sell something you dont own. If this isnt so go to any car lot and tell them you want to sell them your car for cash and see how fast they check to see if you have the legal ability to sell it and not have the title. Once you pay off the loan then you can sell it,but the OP didnt say a thing about paying off the loan did he? .case n point

I believe you can sell a car that you still owe on. You have to get permission from the lienholder and you are responsible for the difference before the buyer gets the title.

Yes, you can sell it. Maybe I should put that in all caps for you. Nah, don't care that much, yo.

Bingo.

I just bought our last Jeep that hadn't been paid off, and they didn't have the title. Went to the bank, paid off the loan, and they mailed the title to the bank. After the bank received the title they called the former owner and we went down and he signed it over to me. Simple as that.

It depends on your situation, aka, how much you owe on the vehicle, how much you have to put down, your credit, etc etc etc. You need to give more specific information.

No offense, I guess it is just how we think of what sell means. I stand corrected you can sell a car you dont have a clear title on as long as the extra paper work is done.
