of the blue 74 impala--in fact that is what is featured on the GM plant brochure-a blue 74

remember the Clint Eastwood flick Sudden Impact ("Make my day"!) from 1983--funny how in the chase scene with the hoodlums Callahan was driving a black 74 satellite and was being chased by the hoods in an orange 74 Impala

after they fished both cars out of the bay Callahan's boss says to him "that's your idea of a vacation Callahan?"

Default BMW guy

remember the TZ Bridge right near the plant--my dad overheated in our new 71 Duster right on the bridge span when he was driving it home from the showroom--the dealer neglected to check the coolant

though it was 38 years ago, i may recall that it may have been the condenser that got burned out from the overheating, but i'm not sure

Indeed, the TZ looms large from that site. Somehow it was fitting when you had the huge plant and the giant bridge in the background. Now, it seems eerie. However, I can only imagine with a healthy dose of fear breaking down on that span. Wow...that must have been quite an introduction to a new vehicle for your father.

I don't know if you've seen the site recently, that is under talks for redevelopment, but some people have pictures of it during the deconstruction phase and now.

Here's a link to some pictures of the plant: Hudson Valley Ruins: Tarrytown

I've wanted to tour VW's transparent factory in Dresden, where they manufacture the Phaeton, since I first saw a special on it.

We Yanks call that a "hood", kind sir!

BOT: While stationed in Germany, I bought a '84 Volvo DL through their Tourist & Diplomat Sales program. Included was a boat ride and a tour through their factory. Very impressive. (I miss the boxy DL/GL...)
