In the 70s Renault brought to USA their successful (in Europe) Renault 5 and renamed it Le Car. Just the name was enough to turn away some buyers. Well Renault has released a prototype Renault 5 electric car for the press. It has some retro design elements that harken back to the original Renault 5. They may have a production version ready for 2025. Do you think such a vehicle could be viable in parts of all of North America? Though Renault does not have a dealer network in North America they are somewhat partnered with Nissan which already makes the Nissan Leaf. Could this become the next generation Nissan Leaf to be sold in North America and other markets?

Didn’t sell back then and why have to Nissan leafs Nissan dealers around me don’t even sell the leaf anymore. Reason they didn’t sell.
It looks like a future version of the existing Renault Zoe electric car, which is the top selling EV in Europe at the present time. I see lots of Zoe EV on the streets (in Germany), and even the police use some as in-town patrol cars. A local car sharing service also has Zoe EV available, including right across the street from my apartment building.
I doubt if Renault will try to return to the North American market. They are part owners of Nissan already, and it would make more sense for Renault to support Nissan to improve their quality, sales & operations in North America. Renault makes & sells cars on all the other continents except North America, so they are already covering most of the globe. It would be a big hurdle to tool up factories for Renault cars built to North American specs from their existing factories in Europe or Brazil.

If the performance harkened back to the original mid-engined R5 Turbo, it'd be a hoot!
It is kind of cute. Since VW killed off the beetle, maybe this thing could slide in to take it's place. Maybe make it in pastel colors and throw in a vase with some fake flowers like VW used to do.
I could see it being popular around college towns.
I would love to see more small city cars in the US, but they just don't seem to sell all that well. Fiat has its new 500, Honda has the Honda e, and none of these look like they are making their way over to the US, so I think it's an even bigger stretch for a Renault to make it over even though they can rebadge through their Nissan or Mitsubishi Alliance members.

Is it Ree-know or Ren-no or Ree-nalt or Ren-alt? I am so confused.
