I am looking at a used SUV and seem to have narrowed it down to a Highlander or Touareg, model years 2010-13
I have looked over and driven both, 2 quite different machines.

Touareg bit ugly outside but very well put together inside, simple but effective controls and top quality look and feel. Do have a nagging German reliability feeling though.

Highlander nice looking from the outside but surprisingly cheap feeling inside. Seat heater knobs very 80's retro

We had an original Highlander and it was a great car, currently have a Sienna and like it alot.
I will be getting rid of an Avalanche, only because I don't need something this big and thirsty anymore.

I looked into the Toureg before buying a different car recently and all of my research kept me away due to reliability issues. They are dirt cheap on the used market with ridiculously low miles and I suspect reliability is the reason.

Avoid a Touareg like the plague! They are horribly unreliable and have serious quality issues as the miles begin to add up. The Highlander will outlive the VW by a long shot.

Toe Rag.

RUN, Forest RUN!

Bad soul stealing JuJu inside.

Cost me nearly 20K to walk away from that Pig....worth every dime.

In fact if I were a swine....I'd be insulted about the comparison.

Went to Mercedes Benz and could not be happier.

I understand the early models had issues, all European cars have issues lol but still problems with the 2012 models ?
MB had a terrible reputation during the Chrysler years. I like the look of the GL350 but there are no MB dealers in my area anymore, so thinking its better to avoid them.
BMW dealer looked at me like a piece of dog poop on their shoe, eff them.
My Avy has 191K miles on it and I can wrench things myself, so not worried about normal maintenance items.

Also I calculated the fuel cost of diesel over petrol and it is a wash with these type vehicles.

Anyone I have known with a Touareg has not had a successful ending with the vehicle. The Highlander may not be as premium feeling, but will last much longer. Why not an MDX, though if looking to a more premium model? It's difficult to beat, and does not have reliability issues like the VW.

Toyotas are extremely reliable vehicles known for lasting a LONG time. VWs are extremely unreliable and costly to repair. The VW SUVs are the least reliable of the sorry Teutonic lot.

If you want something more luxy get a MDX or a GX460. ugh I so wanted a X5 or Q7 but reliability is terrible.
