Why do elderly people like Buicks, Lincolns, and Cadillacs so much?

Because they're large, they are easy to get into and the seats are like ones in your living rooms....They also have conservative features and accessories that aren't faddish.

I would guess because they are quiet, comfortable, have an nice ride, are reliable, and remind them of the big '50s-'70s Buicks, Lincolns and Cadillacs.

However, quite a few under 65-year-olds buy those cars. Including me. I own a '95 Lincoln Town Car (and two Cadillacs) and I am nowhere near elderly.

I've also noticed that on Lincoln and Cadillac message boards, many members are under 35 years old:

I'm 24, and I drive a Lincoln. I think "old people" drive them because they're comfortable, powerful American cars. I also think Cadillac and Lincoln are a bit of a status symbol among the WWII-generation.

As you go younger (baby-boomers, generation x, and especially my generation), it seems like European and some Japanese cars become the dominant status symbol. The prices reflect this, too - for example, I bought my 2003 Lincoln LS V8, with 12,000 miles, for $17,500. A similar BMW, Lexus, Acura, Audi, Mercedes, etc., would've been at least $30,000, if not more.

I like them, I am in the 40+ age group. I think all those companies are getting away with their older image cars and updating to attract a new demographic. Esp. cadillac. And lincolns has lots of SUVs (too many).

Because they dont need blinding acceleration, sporty styling, massive grip, or suck-your-dentures-out braking force.

Lol that is funny, Im also 24 and I bought my 2004 Olds Bravada for $17k with only 13k miles on it. It was bought for over $35k by a older woman who traded it in a new Lincoln nav! I liked the tradition of oldsmobile(RIP) & buick. My next ride is going to be a Buick Enclave!
