Flashback to my first car, 1978 Camaro. While the front seats were somewhat uncomfortable, the back seats were considered to be a form of cruel and unusual punishment. Even worse when trying to make-out. The only plus to such horrible rear seats was virtually no one wanted to ride along if the only seats available were the rear.
My old 1986 Iroc-Z may as well not even had back seats! My friends would have to tilt their heads to the side back there and they weren't even tall.
I also owned a 2000 Subaru Forester and the front seats were really bad. Sitting in it was comfortable, but once you got out of the car- instant back pain.
My most comfortable car was the 3 Ford Taurus' I owned, and the 95 Dodge Ram. My grandmas Grand Marquis is awesome, like sitting on a big soft sofa.
And while I now mainly drive Japanese, I will never claim they have any level of comfort.
I have had a problem in the past with VW Jetta seats and also hubbys Volvo V50. They are narrow across the shoulder area and make me feel like I'm hunched up when sitting in them. Years ago I had issues with Ford Escort seats, they were cheap and like sitting on a park bench.
Last time I was looking at cars, I test drove a Scion tC. I liked it and was seriously considering purchase so I brought my wife up to the dealership for a ride-along. She couldn't ride in it for long because of how uncomfortable the front seat was. I ended up getting a 2008 Jetta that was far more comfortable for her to ride in. It was more comfortable for me, too, but I was coming from a Wrangler so my needs obviously aren't that high when it comes to comfort.

When I was in high school I drove one of the ugliest cars there, a 1958 Chrysler. Whenever we went to lunch they always wanted to take mine because it was so big and comfortable inside. We could fit 4 in the back seat. The most comfortable front seats I've ever had are on our current 2014 Escape, with power seats and lumbar support. The back seats are not that great but there are only two of us now so we rarely have anyone other than maybe a grandkid in a car seat back there.
Best seats ever - 86 Chrysler LeBaron. Just best.
I am in love with new Honda seats.
Focus has a torture device for front seat.
But with all that said - IT IS ALL VERY SUBJECTIVE.
