Okay, so another question, my truck is a 2004 and completes 10 yrs next month. Mileage is around 108000. How long I plan to keep it is unknown but it may be for a few months to a year longer, so mileage at sale could be around 115000 miles. Current worth I would say is around $4k (low estimate) to $6k (high estimate)
Fixing a new panel would probably be $500-600 including the painting etc. is it even worth it? Or should I just sell it as is with the slight dent, it's not too prominent and purely asthetic in nature.
If it's in generally good condition otherwise, I'd fix the dent. I personally wouldn't be interested in buying a car that needed body work unless it was a restoration project. I think most others probably think the same way. Now if it's a junker with a $1000 price tag, that would be another story. And if it has a dent, I'd immediately think "junker" and expect a super cheap price on it.
if you have some skills, you can paint the fender yourself. duplicolor has a paint system that is inexpensive and can be shot in your garage, and has no recoat window. all you need is a decent paint gun and air compressor. as for blending the new with the old paint, you can buff out the old paint and make it look new again. do it right and few people will notice that anything is different.
OP, many good options here for whatever level of quality you want and whatever level of painting skill you have.
Surprised I'm first to mention this, but I would suggest you mount the fender yourself first, then take the truck to the body shop. This avoids handling the freshly painted fender and probably scratching the new paint. The paint will be somewhat soft for a few days (depending on what kind of paint they use), so better not to handle it during that period.
Continuing to master the obvious, it's a lot easier to R&R a fender with at least one helper, than to do it solo.
