Around 2 weeks ago I had my 2008 hyun sonata inspected for maryland and they said my rack and pinon was leaking. I drive rarely, less than 5000 miles per year. When I drove my car before I dropped it off, I did notice in the parking lot that there was more play in the steering wheel. It took more of me physically turning the wheel to get the car to turn.

Within 10 days after getting my car back I start to get this knocking noise coming from both sides of the front end and in the steering column. I can very slight feel the knocking sometimes in the steering wheel. It is not loud but it is extremely annoying.

I took my car back to the tire and auto shop where I initially received service. I remember them saying we are going to try a new rack, I assume a new rack and pinon. Anyway I dropped my car off overnight and they called around 2pm and said they spent hours on it and can't find anything wrong with it.

I spent 960 dollars to get my car repaired including the 60.00 for the inspection. My car never made this noise before it was worked on. Now I don't know what to do, will it just go away on its own, should I take my car to a place that just does steering and suspension?

Knocking is NOT normal in a steering system. Did the shop say they actually drove the car? Go back and insist the shop manager go for a test drive with you.

Take it back, talk and ride with manager. This is not normal. Brakes and steering are two parts that just need to work and work properly.
