USA TODAY survey of 90 CEOs found 13% drive a BMW, 12% a Mercedes and 10% a Toyota.
The average price CEOs paid for their primary vehicles was less than $25,000 and more than one in four CEOs (26%) paid less than $20,000 for his or her vehicle. "That was surprising," Nolan says. "You would think it would be much more."
almost one in five (19%) did drive luxury vehicles. But they were far outnumbered by those who drove passenger cars (29%), SUVs (24%), pickup trucks (13%), vans and minivans (9%) and sports cars (6%).

The company i work for gives out company cars and fuel card. So they don't have to spend money on car payments or fuel. They just bank the coin they save. That's how the rich gets richer.
The people around me drive everything from Ferrari 599's and Rolls dropheads all the way down to Honda Civics and Chevy Malibus. Tons and tons of Mercedes and BMW sedans and SUV's, though... those are probably the median-point vehicles.
Also, you'll see a lot of households where the patriarch, who makes all the money and is probably more of a "numbers guy" than an ostenacious wealth-guy, is driving a Camry or an Accord, but their total-babe, pilates-butt/yoga pants/gold watch/huge-sunglasses wife has a Mercedes G-class or an Aston or something like that. Happy wife = happy life, as they say

Those guys you describe know what counts! Your description of their women almost sounds pornographic to me. I wonder if their are porn sites that feature such women.
Many wealthy people don't drive expensive cars since cars are a depreciating asset unlike many other high quality investments. It is the new money syndrome people that buy the expensive cars or some that are willing to just spend big money for a few more luxury features.

I'd argue what you describe is a middle class syndrome and it just goes into overdrive when they come into money. I'm also thinking some wealthy may avoid cars that are associated with middle class ostentatiousness. Perhaps that's partly why Subaru, Saab, and Volvo are popular.

Subaru and Volvo are safe conservative vehicles. I don't see how they are "ostentatious" at all. In fact, the used Subaru I picked up was more affordable than the Toyota and Honda cars I was looking at. Saab is now discontinued, newer Volvos have become expensive to repair, so that leaves Subaru as the winner based on the three you mentioned.

I think that's probably how most of these guys met them

^ no joke. A few days ago, I was looking on Craigslist and was amazed at how inexpensive used Legacies were. Then, I went to the Subaru page, and saw that they started at just over $20k, $2k less than base price for a Camry, and the Scoob's price includes AWD. If I was in the market for a midsized sedan, I'd definitely got for the AWD, 6-speed manual option.
Middle-class people or lower drive nicer cars than wealthy people.
