Cars that fake it | Fox News

The above slide show includes vehicles who uses fake engine noises to appeal to sports car fans. Wonder how much the R&D and technology added to the total cost of the car just for engine noise?

Except cars like the Mustang don't fake the engine sound. It's the actual engine sound. Faking it would be playing a recording of an engine over speakers to simulate the engine sound.

The full electrics and some hybrids are needing to add engine noise machines so they don't run over the hearing impaired.

That's about as bad as those fake turbo whistle makers you can buy on eBay to make everyone think you have a turbo.

In the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off From School, the Ferrari 250 was a kit car and they dubbed in a real Ferrari exhaust note for the film.

Sounds like the BMW M5 is faking it with a computer program, but the others have a variation on a sound resonator to pipe in vibrations and engine noise into the cockpit.

I have been asking for hybrids to have fake noise. Twice so far, I have been almost hit while jogging. Once by a Prius and once a Highlander hybrid. They just don't make any noise and this particular drivers, were just in the bike lane and swerving around. I have since stopped running on the streets.
