My car's current battery is a Sears Die Hard that has outlasted the original factory-installed one. Even though the battery is old (and I've had it tested), the people at Sears tell me it's still holding a good charge and has a lot of life left in it. However, before the colder weather begins in earnest, I'm going to have it tested again, for my own peace of mind.

Batteries can last a long time or go out in a short time. Not all batteries even the same brand are eqaul. They are mean to stay fully charged but as time goesd they can lose capactiy. They can laos have a shorted ceel and heat is very hard on them. I juts replace evry three years and remove the battery and clean it and the compartment holding it every year.

I don't mess with batteries....5 years and I replace 'em. In my experience they seldom give advance warning that they are about to go. Like I'll start the car and go to work....go to leave 8 hours later and....nuthin.

And everytime I've waited until they died...it was the middle of the night, in a bad neighborhood. Not worth the risk for a lousy 70 or 80 bucks!

I used a optima battery and yet to have a problem with it

Optima Battery has taken the clean, reliable, high-power output that made the OPTIMA Red Top starting battery famous and engineered in DEEP CYCLE ability. The OPTIMA BATTERY Yellow Top Deep Cycle uses the same unique SPIRALCELL Technology that outperforms and outlasts conventional flat plate batteries. The OPTIMA BATTERY design uses the same elements that Optima used to make the Red Top Starting battery. Then Optima Battery engineers then increased the battery plate density. This design gives the OPTIMA BATTERY YELLOW TOP the ability to be deeply discharged and recharged without giving up the famous Optima Battery high starting ability.
  • THE YELLOW TOP OPTIMA BATTERY provides high power output resulting in greater cranking ability at high current loads.
  • THE YELLOW TOP OPTIMA BATTERY is fully recharge in as little as one hour.
  • THE YELLOW TOP OPTIMA BATTERY has been verified in Life Cycle testing to exceed 350 complete discharges.
  • THE YELLOW TOP OPTIMA BATTERY won't spill, leak, or corrode. THE YELLOW TOP OPTIMA BATTERY can be mounted in any position - sideways, or even upside down.
  • THE YELLOW TOP OPTIMA BATTERY lasts two to three times longer than conventional batteries. Optima Battery engineers have used high purity lead design provides a much longer shelf life, meaning THE YELLOW TOP OPTIMA BATTERY can sit unused for up to one year and still start your vehicle.

what ever is factory installed in my 2001 impala has been in the desert every year and cranked up like normal in northern Wisconsin after a night of 50 below wind chill in the winter of 2007, a repairman told me it was original equipment, I have it tested once a month when I change oil, so far so good,
