Earlier this year during Summer, the back window on the drivers side fell. We were unable to pull it back up and the motor was still working, it just wouldn't push the window up. My boyfriend feels that the belt broke. Now today the same thing happened to his driver side window. It was bad enough to have to put plastic on the back window, but it simply isn't something we can do for the drivers window.

How much would it cost to have this belt replaced (if that is indeed what it is). I understand cost varies from place to place, we are in Texas, but a general idea is welcomed.

Thank you

Sorry, never saw a window with a 'belt drive' before...

Have them check the motor out, and see what happened to the other window...
Contact your Dealership and the Manufactorer of the Car and see if this is a problem that is reacurring, and if they will pay for it...(sometimes you will be suprised at whats defective, and they admit to, years later).

I wish you well...

Jesse

Probably a window regulator.

What kind of car?

Most likely what you're calling a belt is actually called a tape drive. Some are replaceable and some require the entire window regulator to be replaced.

It all depends on what you're driving.

More than likely it is the cable drive style.

Sorry about that, it's a Chevy Impala '99-'00.

That picture was very informative, thank you

Are there any ballpark price amounts for any of the above listed problems? I'm hoping it's something under 100$. Thank you

Ours cost $240.00 for 02 Ford Explorer SUV when the window drive broke on the drivers side. That was at an independent shop, not at a higher priced dealer.

If these are anything like the 1999.5-2000 VW golf's, the clip on the regulator that holds the glass has broken. I had 3 of the 4 windows drop because of this.

Either way, whether it be the clip or the cable/tape, the easiest thing to do is replace the regulator.

Its around $110 AT NAPA. You have to take the inner door pannel off to get to it.

I have seen a window belt but it was on an old 1927 3hp tractor that worked a cotton gin, later used to work a still for moon shine.
