I am changing the plugs and wires on a 2003 (3.0) Ranger. I am done, except one spark plug will not come out. I cannot seem to get the socket to grab the hex thingy on the spark plug. I bought a better and thinner walled spark plug socket, but no luck. It just will not grab the thing. I tried spraying out the hole with PB blaster and then blasting it with compressed air to get any crud that might be in the way. No go. I tried tapping the socket into place with a hammer - nope.

This is of course the most difficult spark plug to get at (Drivers side rear). I am frustrated. It will be not only a waste of money but also embarrassing if I have to take it to a mechanic and ask them to change out one spark plug.

Anyone know any tricks?

Try changing plugs on a Ford V-8 Triton (?) engine. It will take all day. With the special plug removing kit.

Just leave the plug in place. It probably works anyway. I use platinum tipped plugs and just leave them in forever.

That might be why your having trouble....maybe someone else left a different sized plug in there if they couldn't get it out (different brand, different socket size perhaps). I don't ever use those plug sockets, just the right fitting deep well 6 point.
