The condenser motor fan on my Honda Accord stopped working. I removed it from the car and noticed that something is loose inside. It will only run when lying flat. I can't find a way to open it. If I can open it, I might be able to fix it and not have to buy a new one. Thanks.

Motor only works in flat position.

The bearings are shot, that's the rattle and the tell-tale only working in one orientation issue. Looks like it was press-fit and riveted. Time to buy a new one....

If you don't want to spring for a new one, you can probably find a good fan assembly or at least good motor at a boneyard.

To answer your question directly, probably you are looking at 2 rivets on the back of the motor, in principle you could grind them down or drill them out, and get the motor apart that way, it might be possible to re-assemble it with some sort of threaded fastener, probably the only thing the motor really needs is bearing replacement and/or brush replacement - but - unless you don't have anything else to entertain yourself with.

As a practical matter, you can get a good used motor from a boneyard, and that's probably the way to go.

Sealed unit. Not serviceable. Toss it, buy another.

My local junkyards want too much money for a complete fan assembly. The motor, apparently, is not available by itself. One place wanted $50 for one. Another wanted $65. Another one wanted for $40 but the one they had didn't work. And of course, these are old parts and can fail at anytime with no warranty whatsoever for the buyer.

Autozone and Pep Boys sell a new one for $100 but have to special order it. These usually come with a one, two, even lifetime warranty.

The best price I found is online here:

Parts Bin - Auto Parts and Accessories Catalog - condenser fan - 1994 Honda Accord.

I will most likely buy from them.

You might try the Jeremy Clarkson method. "Anyone have a hammer?"

Looks to me like you can pry it apart. In the second photo, it looks like there is a tab at the 7 o'clock position that can be pried back with a screwdriver. There are probably at least 2 others.
