Dudes, most of you rabid drag-racing fans probably already know this, but I just heard this stat and it blew me away so much that i felt compelled to share it with my CD motorhead buddies. Here goes: the fastest Funny Cars and TOp Fuel dragsters now hit around 330 mph. at the end of a 1/4 mile, right? So a gear-head friend of mine says that this is sooo fast that if a NASCAR, say Jimmie Johnson's #24 comes flying across the starting line of the dragstrip at 200 mph and then the dragster driver pops his clutch the split-second JJ hits the line, the dragster will beat the NASCAR to the finish line! How crazy is this. These things have become like rockets on wheels!
Comments? Maybe you can add some other awesome facts on how fast these Top Fuel badboys are? Thanks.

TF and FC only go to 1000' now, and the speeds are still up there. The quickest motorsport but if you want the fastest ya gotta look at unlimited air racing, 500mph+

LOL Do you even know what NASCAR is? It's not a car, it's a sanctioning body.

Well, no s.h.i.t., Sherlock; I just said "NASCAR" in reference to the "NASCAR car" because that kinda sounded redunant. I figured most people woulda figured that one out. Guess not.
The dragster has more power than the first half of the NASCAR field.
And at wide open throttle can only last for a few seconds til it has to be rebuilt vs 3-4 hrs for a Cup car.

Duuuuude, your entire post was hard to figure out.
Calling it a NASCAR sounds like something a person who knows nothing about racing would say. Say, I think we've found the problem.
At 200mph a car covers 1/4 mile in 3600/800 seconds, or 4.5seconds. If the dragster can do the 1/4 mile in less than 4.5 seconds, then it beats the NASCAR stocker across the line.
See what staying in school past the third grade does? You can multiply and divide with fractions, instead of relying on what your "buddy told you".
As amazing as 330 MPH 1/4's and 320MPH 1000ft acceleration sounds if you look at time slips you will see incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.143, 660ft-3.059/276.52 mph. This was on a 3.83/315 MPH run last year. Tony Schumacher has started this year testing at 3.75 sec 1000 ft times.
I work for a track that has both an NHRA National event and a NASCAR Sprint Cup event. I have worked the water box at the NHRA event. There is no comparison. Two cars 16000 HP is AWESOME.
