First 18 races would determine 8 drivers qualified for playoffs and points adjusted just as the are now. For the last 6 races the 8 playoff drivers would be pre qualified. They would all be placed on the same side of the latter. Qualifying for them would determine their place on that side. With points penalty for not making qualifying runs. (fans like qualifying) Non playoff drivers would qualify for the remaining 8 spots. Points would then be awarded as they are now.
This would do two things. It would prevent a non playoff driver from eliminating a playoff driver. It would also give a playoff driver a 2 round points advantage over the semi finalist on the playoff side if he wins the event.
