No offense but I never considered auto racing a sport.Nothing against it but to me you have to actually move (run)around. I think of it more as a dangerous competition.Just like I wouldn't consider the World Series of Poker or any other version of cards.Any opinions?

Granted its not a stick & ball sport, but IMO its a sport nonetheless. It does take a certain degree of athlecticism to endure the distance of the race while maintaining focus & reflexes throughout the race. Pit crews syncronizing with precision which allows them to service a car in a matter of seconds or rebuild 8000hp engines in a matter of minutes.

Trust me I don't deny that driving so many miles is challenging and the pit crews are top notch but thats what professionals do;excel at their livelihood.
Maybe a look at the workout programs many nascar drivers do, you would see they have to prepare. 500 miles with high G forces on your neck isn't easy. As for drag racing, I never considered it anything other than a fun sport! But it takes alot of hard work to get there too. Now if I could get back into driving a NHRA Pro Stock again...

Yes the WSOP is a sport coming from an avid poker player. I have to think online poker is a sport too, there are injuries involved. I always get tendinitis from clicking the damn mouse -

I too am an avid poker player but it is more of an intellectual competition then an actual physical sport.

I agree with you; and for the same reasons, I don't think of horse racing as a sport. At least, not for the jockeys, since the horses are the ones doing the work.
But, of course, these days the underlying reason for everything we see on television (and often, pay for tickets to watch in person) is money. If it will draw sponsorship dollars, then it fits the television definition of "sports."
