I record every race on a DVR and then fast forward through the commercials. Sometimes boring stretches as well. It's the only way I'll watch a race any more.

Jayski does a commercial breakdown of every race

https://www.jayski.com/2022/02/21/co...2-daytona-500/

192 minutes of race coverage, 48 minutes of commercials plus another 8 in side-by-side.

vs 2021

Minutes of race broadcast: 206
Minutes of traditional commercials: 49
Minutes of side-by-side commercials: 9

and, we can go all the way back to 2018

Minutes of race broadcast: 175
Minutes of traditional commercials (not split-screen): 53
Minutes of 'Side-by-Side' commercials (split-screen): 9

What it basically comes down to is the fact that we had a pretty fast race this year. Just shy of 3 and a half hours. The commercial load is sold and has to be aired. Whether the race takes 3.5 or 4.5 hours.

So, when you have a quicker race, it seems like there's far more commercials, when in reality, it's about the same number, just aired in a more compressed timeframe.
