Last time I was there for CART in the 90s, The stands were full and people were on the hill in the cactus.

You'd think that with the new cars and a few more American drivers, more people would go out with their families for a Saturday night race
Perhaps the price of tickets is the problem.

Apparently ticket prices were reasonable.

What happened?

A racing series leaves a successful venue and 20 or so years later they try to make a return.

It originally was “an event” for the fans who came out the the track to have fun. For many it was the only race they ever attended -- like Indy. They are now older and don't recognize any of the new driver's names or much of anything else. For some the new “event” at the track is the NASCAR race. Others have completely new interests – things have changed a lot in the last two decades.

Possible new, young fans who don't even remember the original race? Most young people don't have that much interest in cars - certainly not like their parents and grandparents. They aren't going to sit for hours watching cars going around a track – they have other things to do.

Did anyone experience a switch to Spanish during the broadcast today? I wasn't home so I recorded it on an old VCR in case I couldn't find a replay so I have no idea what happened. Commercials are all in English. Weird...

Tuned into an Indy race this weekend and noticed vast stretches of empty stands, like there was nobody there, obviously this league has to be in financial trouble, who's footing the bill for such a lack luster racing event? Seems since the days of CART this series is becoming more and more irrelevant.

No Spanish? I caught the 30 minute condensed broadcast and loved it in that form.

I suppose thats fine if you speak Spanish,if you dont its kind of a lost segment ,but i was more taken by the huge swaths of empty seats.

Maybe NASCAR and INDY could team up in a sense, start by having all NASCAR races on Sunday's and INDY car races on Saturday nights and trim NASCAR races down to 27. Plus you could have cross promotion of each race and cross representation of teams.
