We saw that with kyle's punishment for wrecking one in cool down lap in truck race versus brad doing same to two then going in pit lane and doing another.
PLEASE. Throwing out the two fluke winners of this year (AJ Allmendinger (Road Course ringer at the Glen) and Aric Almirola (restrictor plate race win)) Larson would have been in the Chase due to several top fives, and top 10s including a second place in California to Kyle Busch. In fact, prior to Kasey Kahne's win at Atlanta, he was well in the hunt for most of the season. The issue was Newman had no finishes under 30 like Larson did and Kenseth was just a little more consistent than Larson.
dont get me wrong, i think kyle larson is going to do great things in the future, in fact i was hoping he would get into the chase this year. he unfortunately came up a bit short, due to the aforementioned almirola and almininger wins. however i would not call them fluke wins.
Misogyny/insults aside, I stand by that it's ridiculous that Newman gets a position that way. At this point I'm hoping he wins the Championship so they are forced to get rid of this awful system. It's a joke that he's even in the final 4.

Almirola's win was a rain shortened Daytona July race so that is a fluke on two levels. This is because plate races are historic for flukes AND rain outs often give drivers who wouldn't have normally won the race, the race. Almindinger's win, as much as I like him as a person and the year he had, personally I don't think he would have made the chase except winning on a road course (which was always a strength for him going back to his days in CART.)

It's a joke that NASCAR even instituted this change to the chase. The 10 seed with two additional wild cards was fine except for Spin-gate. Two chases worked out for being Soap Operas to the end (2004 and 2011) with 2012 nearly being the same until Gordon dumped Bowyer.
I think if either Newman or Hamlin win we will see changes. Harvick or Legano; no changes as they did very well this year. Harvick was by far the best driver even with a so-so team at times. Legano lived up to his prior history in racing as the next Gordon.
I heard that changes are already in the works for next year. All Jr will have to do is finish in a points position with a "1" and he will be awarded the championship.
Why would Lagano bring major changes? I think Newman is the most likely to blow up the format.
Right? The guy won 5 races this year.
