Among other things, they are going back to the top 36 make the field, positions 37-42 are for the top teams in points that weren't among the 36 fastest, plus the Richard Petty provisional.
Very similar to the way it was a few years ago before they started fixing things that weren't broken.
Yeah I heard this was coming down a week or so ago. This is excellent news. The Top 35 rule made qualifying 100% pointless and gave a decided advantage to the Top 35 teams. They got an extra practice session (pre-qualifying) to work on their race setups.
It took away any drama that may have risen from a bad qualifying effort. Seems Harvick(?) had to go home once shortly after coming to drive the #29.
Bobby Labonte inherited a better effort after Denny(?) failed to make a Charlotte race.
There are only a hanful of drivers who could trump down the past champion card if needed. The other contenders would have to go home.
i am happy to see that provision going away, i thought it was stupid to begin with. qualifying should always have been go or go home.
