Glad Ragan got another ride because Roush is in a tough spot. He does not have enough sponsorship for four cars plus he has two up and coming drivers in Bayne and Stenhouse that he is doing his best to keep Hendrick or Stewart from stealing.
He had to let Ragan go so he can figure out how he can get Stenhouse enough seat time to keep him happy until a sponsor can be found.
Probably next year both Bayne and Stenhouse will want full time Cup rides and unless more sponsorship can be found a decision will have to be made about Kenseth and or Biffell.

We may see the resurgence of the independent owner. You have two top tier teams struggling to maintain sponsorship and more young drivers coming in than drivers going out. Couple that with a teams like SHR who lease their equipment and its not far out of the realm of possibility.

I would like to see NASCAR limit each owner to only one team.
Let Roush be the supplier for all Ford hardware and let Hendrick supply the GM equipment. Just like it was in the 60's, Holman Moody supplied all the Ford Parts and somebody else supplied GM parts.

Let the teams all build their own cars not Hendrick and Roush building everybody's cars.

With all the money spent today the racing is no better it just costs 10+ times more than it did back then.
All the money that was spent this past week at Daytona on computer geeks tuning the cars it left the independents out of the picture.
What we are seeing now is F1 style racing in sedans.
I know they need the computer for engine management but that should be the extent of computers in NASCAR.

This is a pitfall of NASCAR creating parity, the well funded teams allocate funds to more R&D, R&D costs money.
Bottom line though, no matter what you do the well funded teams will always dominate.

you are forgetting the fact that from the late 60s through the mid 80s, banjo mathews built just about every chassis that ran in nascar. as i recall childress and petty were the ones that started building their own chassis, followed by melling after they bought the elliott team.
