In both of the last two places I've lived, there have been really robust, helpful e-mail list groups for parents. These have served as resources for things like advice about camps, schools, day cares, etc. -- all kinds of things -- as well as exchanges for quickly-outgrown things like clothes, baby gear, etc.

Anyway, as we prepare to move to the Austin area, I'm wondering if such a thing exists there. Is there something for Austin as a whole, or maybe for neighborhoods or suburbs? Info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There are! Usually it is neighborhood based. There are a few bigger lists on certain topics: homeschooling, education, attachment parenting etc. But neighborhood lists and mom's lists based in neighborhoods are the most valuable.

I second the neighborhood list. Most will have them.

That's great to hear. Any chance of anyone pointing me to any for the Leander or Liberty Hill area? Those seem to be the areas we're gravitating to. Thanks in advance.

Ohh. I have no idea if there are active lists in those areas. In the city neighborhoods and the big suburbs there are very active lists . . . I'd guess Leander has them, but don't know about Liberty Hill.

Maybe ask your realtor.
