Does anyone know about this area in Taylor? County Road 414 Taylor, TX 76574 We're looking at relocating and found a home in this area, but we are clueless to this part of TX. Also, what is the weather like year round? Is there alot of sunny days? Is there a good fishing/boating lake nearby? Anyone know the demographics?

Also, we are considering small towns within 30 - 60 miles of Austin, any suggestions? We'd like to go back to small town living, where people are friendly and care about their neighbors, if that even exists anymore....We'd like to be within 30 - 60 minute drive into Austin. We are in Vegas now, love the weather but the people are not friendly.

Recommendations greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Tam

Probably should post this on the Austin forum (or ask a moderator to move it there).

What are you looking for in a home besides small town? What do you like to do? Would you be working, and, if so, where? What's your price range, and what kind of home (size, number of bedrooms, etc.) is ideal? Those are questions we'd need answered in order to advise you - there are a LOT of small towns within that range of Austin, and while I'm familiar with most of them, they're somewhat different and thus knowing a bit more about you and what you're seeking would help us advise you better.

The property that you're evidently looking at (the only one on CR 414 on the MLS as Active) is a bit out in the country, but not too far - a short hop to Taylor, which is a typical Texas small town (it does have a big HEB and Home Depot and Super Walmart and such along with the Tractor Supply and other rural amenities). Taylor's got some lovely older neighborhoods (1930's older) and some newer subdivisions, as well. You'd be about 45 minutes to Austin, it looks like from the map (and my experience driving it from that area). With 6 acres, at that price, it looks like a deal - it's a foreclosure, so that would be reasonable.

Anyway, open up a bit! Tell us about yourself! Then we can tell you if Taylor might suit and what other possibilities there are.

I'd recommending renting first for 6 months to a year. That gives you a chance to explore and find what you are looking for.

I did that when I got relocated to Texas. Had no clue what I wanted or where I wanted to live so I rented for 1 year in Round Rock but found that I like Pflugerville better and found that acreage was affordable (1996). Total 360 from what I was first expecting when I moved here. Ended up buying 6 acres and having a house built.

Taylor is a nice town; some iffy sections but overall a nice town with a new HEB and new Walmart and still has a small town country feel. The developers haven't taken it over like some other towns and turned it into subdivision-ville.
