My car's engine light is on. Can any one recommend a car mechanic who does not charge a fortune?

You can go to Auto Zone and they'll be able to tell you why your light is on for free.

I have a Honda and I take it to Flamingo: Flamingo Automotive - University of Texas - Austin, TX

I have always been pleased with Christian Brothers. I use the one on Brodie north of Slaughter.

Christian Brothers did a ton of unnecessary work on my disabled relatives car. Crooks.

I have a Honda and I take it to Quality Automotive on S.Lamar. They specialize in Honda/Acura but do work on other makes. Guy is a bit blunt but knows what he is doing and uses OEM/top quality parts. Which is important these days because theres a lot of substandard Chinese auto parts out there that will take life off your car.

I used Southwest Automotive Repair once and liked them. They are in the Oak Hill area.

You know, Autozone and Pep Boys (I think) will check the code on the check engine light for free. If it's something simple, it might help to at least know what you are looking at before you take it in to an unknown shop. You can google the code and your car model and get a pretty good idea of what is wrong and how much it may cost to fix.
