Considering moving to Austin to teach high school. What are the nice areas for a single, educator that enjoys the city life to live, close for walking distance? What are the names of sections of downtown? Thanks for your replies.

Well, if you've got a little money, perhaps you should consider the Austonian (56 stories), which is nearing completion downtown.

You may want to post your inquiries in the Austin forum and you'll get lots of locals helping you out.

Where are you coming from? If you can travel to Austin this weekend, there is the Downtown tour of homes on Sunday... it's a great way to walk around downtown and check out all the little sub-area neighborhoods. Most of the major towers will have 2-5 open house units.

DANA | Downtown Austin Neighborhood Association

It's $15, but well worth it.

Just look up the address of places you see and if they're between Zilker park and South 1st street, and within walking distance to town lake or so you should be good to go.

If you want to actually be downtown then any street south of 6th street between San Jacinto and N Lamar are fine.
