Hi!

We are planning on my son's first birthday party in couple of months and looking for some delicious cake. Can anyone recommend any good cake shops. We might do either mickey mouse or aquarium theme.

Thanks

MD

If you really want to have fun, get two cakes. One real good pretty cake to take pictures with and for the guests to eat.

Then get another smaller one for your son to attack and eat as only a 1 year old can do.

When my daughter turned one, our local grocery store gave you a free baby cake when you bought the bigger one for the party.

She had a ball tearing into the cake and getting it all over her. Just prepare the area ahead of time to deal with the mess. It was the highlight of the day!

HEB cakes are very good. Central Market can do great decorations. I've also eaten great cakes from Cosco. We used to get our birthday cakes from Lucy's Cakes, great stuff!

Last week I stopped by Lucy Cakes. There was a sign on the door indicating closure due to a family emergency, and the landlord had also posted a notice that the locks had been changed for failure to pay rent. I haven't seen any cars in the parking lot this week either. Hope they aren't closed for good because their cakes are the best ever!

I know!!!

Apparently they are gone. When you google "Lucy's cakes Austin" you get a map to the old location and the link I posted above. But as the link text suggests, they are now only in San Antonio!! Click and see for yourself.

I saw a post for Austin Brides on the Knot that says that the Austin location is closed.

So sad! I got my graduation cake there, and several birthday cakes for the kids.

Terrible

Lucy's website has been down for a while. They were so overpriced for what they sold. My wedding cake was from there, and it was just okay. I gave up on $60+ bday cakes years ago, go to Central Market or HEB.
