I just got out of the shower around 5:45pm today and heard this loud buzzing sound. I thought perhaps it was a neighbor and his trimmer, but then I listened and I knew it was insects. I thought one was inside behind the window blinds but no luck. As I listened to the window I heard a loud buzzing above it where the ceiling angles inward. Either wasps or bees are apparently INSIDE the wall! This is a second story window, and the window does not open.

Man, that buzzing is pretty loud. It went for about 30 seconds, then stops for 30 seconds, then the cycle repeats. Very aggressive sounding buzzing. Very creepy. Now that it is night time there is no noise but I know they will be active again tomorrow.

I guess I need to call an exeterminator - ABC Pest Control? I am also thinking I could cut a square out of the drywall and spray it myself, but I don't know.

Anyone else treat something like this themselves?

I went outside and looked and looked but I don't see anything there. There have been a few nests around my home however. I sprayed one today just outside my door - very productive those yellow jackets are!

Chris

I remember an exterminator taking refuge in my husband's warehouse after opening up a wall in an adjacent property. I'd call an exterminator and get out of the way.

Go with the pros one this one! I had this worry at my last house and the pro came out and looked and said no worries but he said that once you can hear them then its a pretty large group you are talking about.

This past week I had a HUGE bumble bee stuck in the screen. I could NOT believe how loud it was. I hope you can get those things out of the wall and soon. That would drive me nuts! Good luck!

Go with the pros. If they're wasps, you'd be safer letting a professional take care of them. Sounds like a lot if you can hear buzzing! And if they're bees, they may want to relocate them instead of killing them if they're responsible.

I agree with the others.

I've had good experience with ABC Pest Control, they don't overcharge and they stand by their work. They will come back as many times as needed to make sure the problem is solved. Because they are big, they usually have someone nearby your house at any given time... so they will come fast if you need a quick retreatment.

I bet money it is not doing it today!!

Are you new to Austin??

We call them locus. Their real name is(I know this is spelled wrong) Cykata locus.

They are starting to crawl out of the ground, and molt.
They are about an 1½" long, ¾" wide and green

Just make sure this exterminator doesn't take refuge in your home!

lol I don't think he was prepared for the job. When he ran in, he was carrying a small aerosol can.

It's not cicada's if it's in the walls. I'd bet it's bees and I'd call professionals!
