I have a beagle and need to find a place for my upcoming move (2 months from now). What is the rental/deposit/pet deposit average like for a 1 bedroom apartment or condo? I'm looking to move to a middle class income area.

Here is what I would do: call a real estate agent, or if you like send me a message and I will give you the name of ours. They can help you find an apartment.

OR: There are a few agents on this board and I'm sure they would be willing to help you. Texashorselady is one and she posts quite often.

I suppose I'm going out on a limb saying they'd help you but it's been my experience, with her anyways, that she would.

good luck

I don't know anything about the apartment market, but just read a little about pet deposits of around $100 - $300 per pet. Here is a link, followed from the Austin Humane Society's website, with information about pet-friendly hotels, apartments, restaurants across the country. You would want to look at the drop-down list at the top of the page for the category of your search.

Good Luck!

Thank you, oh and the "Please" post wasn't me being facetious so much as realizing I was being rude by not saying it in my first post.

Well, do you know where you will work? What you like to do, or what part of town you want to be in? 1-BR apartments could range from $500 in the outskirts or sketchy parts of town, all the way to $1500+ for a downtown highrise. I'd think you can get something decent for $650. If it's an apartment, the deposit will be about $300 with a $150-$300 pet deposit. If it's a condo, the deposit will typically be larger.

Austin Small Planet Guide might be a good place to start. Or DM one of the realtors on this board.

Google "Austin Apartment Locator".

They help you for free, know all the areas, all the good deals, which apartments take pets, etc.

Thanks again everyone.

To clarify what I'm looking for (in case anyone knows the perfect spot) ... I'm more of an outdoors kind of person and prefer to live in the more suburban/rural areas. I am a computer profesisonal and most companies who employ me are in both metro and suburbs. I don't mind commuting, but prefer not to.

Btw, what is traffic like at it's worst? I mean how long would it take to get from the north to south or east to west (or vice versa) depending on whichever is the worst. It doesn't look like it would be very bad or am I wrong?
