Growing up in Pennsylvania it was normal to wait 2-3 months before you would stain you deck...20 yrs ago.
I know the weather/sun in Central Texas is much stronger and that stains have changed. I'm wondering if I need to stain my deck sooner now.
I used treated pine from home depot, the wood itself has been at my home for 2 weeks and is pretty dry.
Any thoughts on when I should stain? I would prefer to use latex to oil based; any thoughts on one versus the other?
Thanks for your help and enjoy your Sunday.

You should stain once it is dry. Since you used treated pine just drip some water on it. If it soaks in pretty quick it is ready for stain.

There was a very good rain 2 weeks ago, and the weather doesn't look the greatest right now... you need to have a good period of no rain to ensure the wood is dry. Spring is not usually the best time to stain as it rains and pours. I would wait until at least May to get the rain of April out of its system.

Just as an aside, Lowe's had some Cabot solid color stains on clearance last time I checked. Not sure of colors, etc. but it might be worth a look if you are near a Lowe's. We have a cedar deck and went with semi-transparent...not on sale, of course!
