Hi all - I live in Round Rock and work downtown. My husband and I are looking to move to another neighborhood and have no idea where to start.

We would like to be a little closer to work. He is at mopac / far west
We would like a neighborhood that is very kid friendly - we have a 4 yr old (pool, park)
Good schools ... so looking west of I35
We would like to spend between $250 and $325,000

A friend of mine lives in Lake Point and loves it ... thinks we could manage a smaller home there ... another friend lives in Steiner and has a love hate relationship with it ... she does not like it mostly because of the traffic and some neighbors. Any ideas to go look at would be very much appreciated.

Those are both pretty far from where your husband works.

What age house are you looking for, size, that kind of thing?

I know nothing about anything north of 183! so I have no idea about what other neighborhoods might be a bit closer but still "out there."

But have you consider Allandale? Nice, older houses, walkable to Northwest District Park (big pool and playground), great schools: Gullet Elementary is exemplary and I keep hearing great things about Lamar Middle School and some consider McCallum High a hidden gem. Crestview/Brentwood is great too. And you would have no commute! Great neighbors in that area, and it is easy to bike and walk.

That's what I was thinking - MUCH closer to 2222/Mopac and downtown than either Lake Pointe (where the least expensive house on the market right now is at $799,000 in any case) or Steiner.

If we could we would like to keep the house newer than say the 1980's ... 2100-2600 sq. ft. It is 40 min. for me to work and 30 for my husband now. A neighborhood that is safe for youngsters to get together and play is important.

How about Canyon Creek? 15 minutes from 2222/Mopac. Several houses that fit your parameters available there in your price range, built from late 1990's to early 2000's.

anderson mill is a pretty good bet too -- the commute to 2222/mopac is crazy at times but the 'hood is good, excellent schools, parks/pools, etc.

jollyville area could be good too

I work at 2222/MoPac, and I was wondering about Jollyville. Someone said it was expensive. Is it? i.e. can I get an older 1800+ sq ft house for under $300k?

Yeah, i would say the Anderson Mill area is not too far for you guys. We just bought a house in the Cypress Canyon area and we love the neighborhood. When it comes to schools, we couldn't be any happier. The ratings are great. When checking for a house, you may want to run the zip code by this web site, greatschools.net. In this area, you'll be able to find a new house for that price with no problem. We went we Standard Pacific, their houses are very solid and good quality. Not much complaint from this builder.

Good luck on your home searching.
